Go Pink for October --- Breast Cancer Awareness!

Hello ladies,

Well, today is our last Pink Wednesday manicure for BCA. I've really enjoyed sharing my pink manis with all of you, and hope that on this day you are having a Happy Halloween!

I've decided to end off the month with some pink sparkle a la ColorClub Candy Cane from the Holiday Beyond the Mistletoe collection 2011.

Here is my manicure for BCA!

This is about three coats. It's a sheer formula, and didn't take too long to dry. This photo was taken with flash and artificial light in my lightbox.

This is the same glitter, but without artificial light and lower flash,in the lightbox as well.

Thanks for reading.

Glitzology Beauty Indie Swatches and Review!

Hello again,ladies!

My name is Thalie,and I am a glitta-holic :-)

Last week I had the extreme pleasure of connecting with Stacy Boyd, the owner of GlitzologyBeauty, a new Indie nail polish company. Stacy recently opened her shop on Etsy, and proudly sent me a few of her concoctions for review. I also received a sample of some cuticle balm.

I did use the cuticle balm once. It smells so nice. I was told that it is cupcake-scented, however, I could only smell butter or butterscotch? Well, anyhoo, it smells really nice, and it is a great way to keep your cuticles softened thru the dry winter months!

As you can see, from the photo above, everything arrived to me, safely bubble-wrapped and taped tightly. Everything arrived intact.Shipping was super quick!

First, let's take a gander at the bottle shots:

Bad Things
A polish inspired by the HBO TV show "True Blood"

Sock Monkey
A polish inspired by the homemade sock monkey dolls.

Neapolitan
A polish inspired by  Neapolitan ice cream!

Spook-tacular
This one screams Halloween!

Okay,so on to the swatches!

First up I have:

SPOOK-TACULAR!

Stacy suggests you layer this one over a neon orange base. I applied three layers so you could see the true base color.
Spook-tacular is an orange jelly base jam packed with matte black and white glitters in different sizes, including hex, bars, and squares.

The application here shows three carefully applied coats. I say carefully, because when it comes to glitters like this one, I find it best to lay the brush down on the nail, let it sit for a couple of seconds, allowing the glitters to adhere to the nail, then finish the first coat, let dry,and move on to the second and third. By the third coat, all I had to do was dabble a few glitters over bald spots,as each layer added more glitter.

This swatch does not really do the polish justice,IRL, it looks pretty darn cool on the nail!

Next up for review is:

Neapolitan!

I too have an insane love for sweets, especially chocolate, and ice cream. I  chose to layer three coats of   Neapolitan over  two coats of  OPI Don't Touch My Tutu.

Neapolitan consists of dark rose, pink, brown, and white glitters, along with brown and pink glitter hexes, and white matte hexes and bars in a clear base.

Neapolitan was a bit difficult to apply. The formula was goopy and thick, however, this is common with indie polishes, so if you take a liking to this one, I would suggest adding a bit of thinner.

Our third polish in this group is:
Sock Monkey!

I am so in love with this polish! When I saw it on the website, I thought it looked interesting, but I didn't expect for it to be love at first sight on my nail!
If I could wear it every day for the rest of my life,I would!
Here,I am wearing two coats. Sock Monkey is a mixture of  brown glitters and hexes, tan hexes, white satin hexes, and red hexes and squares, and a little bit of golden mica for shimmer.

The application on Sock Monkey was very easy. It glided onto my nail in two easy coats, and I had no problems at all with the formula.

Last in our review of Glitzology is Bad Things.

Bad Things features a very deep burgundy/red jelly base, with silver holographic glitter and squares, black matte glitter, and red hearts, hexes, and shreds.

Pretty

I am wearing three coats for opaque coverage. Bad Things was also easy to apply. It built up to opacity in three easy coats of gorgeous red jelly goodness!

I honestly am not sure what attracted me to this polish. I knew that I love a good red/burgundy jelly. I also love tinted jellies with glitter in them. I have seen the show "True Blood" maybe once or twice. So from some of the gory scenes of that show,I would say this polish is a very good artistic impression of 'Bad Things" In my opinion it's also a great impression of some of the colorful characters portrayed in that show.

So what do you ladies think of the latest addition to the Indie polish lineup?

These are just four of Stacy's beautiful creations.
GlitzologyBeauty polishes are 3-Free,and Stacy does ship them to the US,Canada, and Worldwide.

In addition Stacy recently announced on Facebook that all full-size polishes are only $5 a bottle. This sale will last until Thurday at noon,so ladies hurry over and order at  GlitzologyBeauty on Etsy

Revlon Lip Butters from Jen!

I just got back from my mailbox, lol! I actually have been home all day, puttering around the house, taking care of stuff, and tweeting the giveaways, entering giveaways, just hanging out on FB,etc.etc.etc.

So anyway, here is my latest nail mail, well not nail mail but mail nonetheless...It's from Jen over at My Nail Polish Obsession

here they are,I took photos of them. The one on the left is Tutti Frutti, and the one on the right is Berry Smoothie.

I've heard these are somewhat sheer,I've never tried them, as I don't buy a whole lot of makeup, mostly because I have already too much lip gloss. I love sheer lippies though.

Anyway, that's a short story for today.

I have other nail mail I haven't posted yet. I received a whole lot of packages recently, and haven't gotten around to sorting thru it all.

Take care everyone.Have a happy safe Halloween weekend.

@NYMBrands Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream

Which Not Your Mother's hair  cream did I find in my Influenster Beauty Blogger's VoxBox?

Kinky Moves, the curl defining cream that eliminates frizz to show your true locks.

This hair product is probably not something I would have tried right off of the shelf, while shopping. I have to say though,it exceeds my expectations when it comes to reviving my lifeless dry, frizzy, coarse, thick hair. There is some curl, but living where I do, the humidity brings out the worst in my hair.

I used this cream according to the directions on the tube.
1) Wash and towel dry hair.
2) Apply to hair and saturate locks.
3) Distribute evenly from root to tip.
4) Scrunch curls, and style as desired.
5) Blow dry upside down, or air dry to reveal smooth, long lasting curls, all day long.

This cream has a really light consistency. It's not greasy. I only needed a little more than a dime size amount to distribute through my hair. And if that isn't all the fragrance is so natural. This hair product has no alcohol-y smell to it. It has the natural scent of jasmine, and is infused with natural grape seed to add extra bounce.

Here is a before photo:

This is my hair in the morning.

This is my hair after I washed it,applied the product, and let it air dry. The photo is a little fuzzy, but you can tell that there is some curl there, that wasn't there before.

I normally use another brand of de-frizzing product whose name I won't mention. It's an high-end name brand cream, and has a greasy feel to it. It also smells yucky.I've felt self-conscious of the odor, wondering wether people around me can smell my hair product. Really, that's not what a woman wants to be concerned about when she goes out in public.

Anyway, I am really glad I have had a chance to try this product. Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves curl defining hair cream, will be what I pick up next time I am shopping for my hair products. I absolutely love it.Love the cream, love the scent, and especially love what it does for my hair!

Not Your Mother's products are available at  CVS Pharmacy stores, WalMart locations, and Ulta Beauty stores nationwide, or visit nymbrands.com for more information.

@BerrysCreations Indie swatches and reviews!

Ok, so, hi again!

First of all I want to thank the lovely and crafty Laura of BerrysCreations on Etsy for being kind enough to send me a couple of her nail polishes for review, and some other exciting goodies!

Pictured are Gold Glam and Silver Baby, which are available as a duo at Laura's shop on Etsy. She also included a Glitter Helper, which is a base for making your own glitter nail polish,or to add an extra lift to a glitter polish that might have lost it's oomph.

Now for some swatches!

This is Silver Baby. It is small silver and holographic glitter in a clear base. I am showing it here,at two coats. It can be built up to opacity at three coats.

Here is Silver Baby at three coats, taken outdoors in the shade. I had a bit of trouble capturing the true color, because the holographic glitter was blinding :-)

Next up:

Gold Glam! Here it is at three coats. This one is small golden glitter and holographic glitter in a clear base. I like this one alot!

Along with the polishes Laura also sent me these:

A trio of microbeads which you can find here!

When I saw the microbeads, I immediately thought FISH EGG MANI!

I had so much fun creating this manicure!

There are a few other things Laura included in my package. I will show you.

Alot of assorted sampler glitters that she includes with every order. You can also find them in full size here!

Laura has just launched her facebook page LIKE Berry's Creations
She also has a twitter @BerrysCreations

As a little treat for my readers, Laura has included a coupon code: GLAZEDTALONS for you to use for 10% off of anything you buy from her Etsy store. She also wanted me to let you know, that she is getting ready to add some gift sets for the upcoming holidays. So check out her Etsy store, she has alot of pretty custom made nail polish,as well as the microbeads, and glitter.

@Influenster Beauty Bloggers VoxBox 2012 Unboxing!

I recently found out I was chosen to receive the Beauty Bloggers VoxBox from Influenster. So a few days after I was notified,I was suprised to find this on my doorstep!

In the top right corner is the NYC New York Color IndividualEyes Custom Compact.
On the left is a Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin,something I am really looking forward to trying out, since I like to put my hair up,especially when I want it out of my way, like when I am preparing dinner. Or in the summer when it's way too hot for long hair.
Below the Eye shadow pallette is a $10 Gift Certificate to Bath & Body Works! How exciting is that!

Moving right along clockwise from  the top left  is a package of Kiss Ever Pro Lashes Starter Kit. This will be fun to play with too :-) Next is Boots No. 7 Beautiful Skin Hypoallergenic Cleanser, a Bath & Body Works candle that smells delicious! Then there's also Boots No. 7 nighttime moisturizer. The last item I see here is a the tube of Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream.I've already tried it once, and it is so nice!

Not pictured is the EBOOST Effervescent Powdered drink in Orange flavor. I am pretty sure it's just flavored water, even though it says it has vitamins in it.

And that's my Beauty Bloggers VoxBox for now.

I will be posting separate reviews of the individual items in the box.

Thank you,Influenster!

Zoya Ornate Swatches and Review! (on my nubbins)

Hi everyone! Good day to you!

Today I've got my swatches together and a review of the Zoya Ornate Holiday/Winter nail lacquer set.
I was super excited to receive these polishes, and even though I couldn't swatch them right away,I finally bit the bullet and said "Nubbins be damned."

I'm sure you've seen some swatches of these polishes somewhere in the last couple of weeks. I received mine, and as my nails have been damaged,I wasn't able to swatch them until yesterday. So, most of you who read my blog know that I usually wear false nails.

This post will be very different,as I am giving my "nubbins" the coming out party that they deserve. Nothing could be more perfect for them than the Holiday Ornate collection from Zoya!

I had so much fun swatching these! So let's get on with the swatches!

Blaze is a medium vampy mulberry red, with multi-colored holographic glitter. Zoya calls it microdiamond glitter. The first coat was sheer, and the polish became opaque after the second coat was applied.

This is Ziv. I never did find out which Marvel Comic character this polish is named is for. All the other names I am familiar with. If you know who Ziv is, please leave me a message in the comment section, thanks.

Ziv is a yellow-toned metallic gold foil with lots of gold flake glitter.I used two coats for full coverage. I have other golds in my stash, but none as beautiful as this one!

This one is Zoya's Logan. Please excuse the dent in my ring finger.I had just started swatching, and didn't notice the dent until after I took a zillion photos of this one. The color was very hard for me to capture for some odd reason. This is the best photo I have,it was taken outdoors to reveal yellow-gold inside a blue-green base. The first coat was sheer, and built to opacity with the second.

And here is Storm! I want to say this is my favorite of the collection, only because it's first time I can say black looks good on my tips :-) Storm is opaque in two coats and  is packed with so much holo glitter it's insanely gorgeous! Talk about "rockin' your nubbins". If you get one polish from this collection,I would buy this one. Just my own humble opinion.

Aurora. Next to Storm, is my second best pick from this collection. It's a sugarplum purple with loads of holo microdiamond glitter. It took two coats for opacity on this one too.

Finally, Electra, she truly does sparkle. I  like Electra, however, I don't feel the color truly represents my Marvel Comics heroine of the same name. I do like the tinsel glitter. I used two coats for this one, although I could have gotten away with one coat,I just didn't want any bald spots. I really feel one coat is best. And probably better layered over another Zoya polish like Natty. I can see you wearing your black gown to that holiday gala, and sporting this one on your tips!

I had no trouble at all with the application of these polishes. The formula  is great, and the dry time is good as well.

All in all, I am really pleased with Zoya's Ornate collection. I am sure everyone will have their favorites from this group or maybe you might want them all.

Which ones will be on your shopping list for the holidays?

Polish was kindly provided for review. All opinions are my own.

Revlon Starry Pink

Revlon Starry Pink

Sorry I am late with this ladies. It is still technically Wenesday,so here is a manicure I  did when  I had  my  own natural nails grow out with the help of Ask Cosmetics T.I.P.S. nail conditioner.

I love this demure light pink, with little white hex glitter and a bar glitter here and there.

My nails are very stubby in real life,so I get grossed out looking at them. I have splits down the middle of both pinkies, a split on the side of my left thumb, and left middle finger.

To pamper my nails I have been using LUSH Lemony Flutter. I have been applying it to my nails frequently, but my nails sometimes hurt.

I know this is supposed to be a post about Breast Cancer Awareness, so while I am on the subject of the health of my nails, I will remind you to eat healthy, get plenty of excercise and sleep. Be good to yourself. It's best to keep a proper balance of work life, recreation, and home and try not to overdo anything.

Be good to yourself. Be happy and be healthy!

Go Pink for October!

Hello ladies and welcome to another edition of Go Pink for October!

Here is some information that I would like to share with my readers about breast cancer.

1) Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, topped only by lung cancer.

2) When breast cancer is detected early, there is a 98% survival rate.

3) Early detection includes monthly breast self-exams, scheduling regular clinical breast exams with your doctor, and having mammograms.

4) Early warning signs of breast cancer may include the discovery of a new lump or a change in the breast tissue or skin.

Six years ago, while I was taking a bath, I discovered a lump on the underside of my left breast. Needless to say, my husband and I were a bit frightened.

The good news is that I went directly to my doctor, had myself examined, and had a mammogram.

More good news. Thanks be to God, it was just a scare.

I now have regular check-ups with my doctor, and go for a mammogram regularly too.

And now for the manicure I want to share with you today:

this is one of my favorite pink metallics from the China Glaze Romantique collection, and it is called Emotion.

To spiff it up a bit,I added an accent nail with Nails Inc. Topping Lane.

Macro shot of Topping Lane

I hope you enjoyed this post today.

Thank you for reading.

Arissa Rockin' Amethyst

Hello polish lovers!

I've been re-organizing my stash, ( I probably do this every three months). Anyway,I found this wonderful gem from a purchase I made at Family Dollar about 2 years ago. It was maybe $1.50, or so. I set it aside and forgot about it.

Lightbox w/ flash
Sunlight

Another angle
Arissa Rockin' Amethyst turned out to be a gorgeous, if not delicious looking, jelly with small particle red shimmer. It did take four coats for opacity but it was tooootally worth it! The dry time on this one was pretty quick too!

I honestly don't know if these polishes are still in circulation. I only see LA Colors at my Family Dollar now,so if you can find this one, you should get it. If you are a purple and a jelly lover that is :-)

Thank you for reading!

Soulstice Spa Nail Lacquer Nevis and San Francisco

Hello all!

I have swatches today of a couple of Soulstice Spa Lacquers for you to see!

Nevis is a bright green creme, and is a new color in the Soulstice Spa color line.

Taken with flash indoors

San Francisco: a burnt orange glow, a shade from the core line.

Taken with flash indoors

These are two very pretty colors, although Nevis,is not to me,a traditional fall color. It is bright and happy, though, and I didn't have any issues with application. I achieved full coverage with Nevis, in two coats.

I am on the fence with San Francisco.Firstly,I love the color, it's a nice fall pumpkin shade, however, the formula was very runny, and I needed at least four coats for full coverage.
The dry time on both of these polishes was more than I would have liked, but overall they are fairly decent colors, and you can't beat the price for $8 a piece. Soulstice Spa has a really nice selection of nail colours on their website.

I have to say my favorite color is San Francisco. Which one of these is your favorite?

You can shop for these colors and more online  at Soulstice Spa
