Zoya Diva Song swatch and review

Hello dear readers!

Today's swatch will be Zoya Song.

Here she is in sunlight!

And another sunlight photo from a different angle.

Song is a bold vibrant primary blue, with silver and blue micro glitter.

I applied two coats for full coverage, and had no issues with the formula or application. I was pleasantly surprised to find the glitter going on to the nail, not something I expected coming from the look of the shade in the bottle. Song is truly a unique polish.

In addition,I experienced no incidence of "smurf" fingers,as one would expect with a blue polish. It was removed very easily and effortlessly with non-acetone polish remover.

What Does My Name Mean? Song, The Meaning of Names

What does the name “Song” mean? A name is much more than just a name!
S is for smile, it gives you face value.

Hello again,dear readers.

Today I have swatches of Zoya Elisa from the Diva portion of Zoya's fall collection.

Let's get straight to the swatches, shall we?

Here is Zoya Elisa pictured in the shade with two coats of polish. I also added some INM Out the Door topcoat to keep it shiny.

And here is Elisa in bright sunlight! You can see her gold shimmer in this photo.

And another shot of Elisa. I like the color best in this photo. It appears more metallic than in the other two.

Elisa is described as being bright, shining medium crimson red with subtle gold shimmer and a glowing metallic finish. I did detect a hint of pink as I was applying Elisa. Elisa went on very smoothly and I had no trouble at all with application.

Zoya Designer swatch Noot!

Hello dear readers!

And today I have the final swatch of the creme side of the Zoya fall collection.

Her name is Noot, and  I found I liked her much better on the nail than in the bottle. She appears rather dark on,however, there is a green tinge to her. My husband was looking at my swatches yesterday, and noticed no difference between Noot and Evvie. I had Evvie on my left hand, and Noot on the right. My husband has incredibly good vision, however,he can sometimes be slightly color blind to the blue/green spectrum of colors.

So,Zoya Noot is described as a very dark grey with strong blue-green undertones. I couldn't agree more, and hope my photos will reflect that today.

                                                           Outdoors in sunlight

                                                              Indoors with flash

Zoya Noot, also gave me trouble with application. I had the same issues with it,I had with Evvie. So this is again, another reswatch. I am actually very happy with the way it turned out. I used two coats for full coverage, and the dry time was more than I liked. And again, I am also not sure this color flatters my skin tone at all. However,I do think it is a very pretty color!

What Does My Name Mean? Noot, The Meaning of Names

What does the name “Noot” mean? A name is much more than just a name!
N is for neatness, your orderly way.
O is for orderly, a lifelong passion.
O is for outlook, pleasing to all.
T is for touching, the way you show you are.
Out of 5,364,811 records in the U.S. Social Security Administration data, the name “Noot” was not present. You might want to use a short version of your first name or perhaps your nickname.
On the other hand, you simply have a name that no one else in America is using. For 132 years only your parents have thought of using your name. Hoorah! You are a unique individual.

Your name in reverse order is “Toon”. A random rearrangement of the letters in your name (anagram) will give ‘Onto’. (How do you pronounce that?)

Zoya Designer swatch Evvie!

Hello dear readers.

Today I have a swatch of Zoya's Designer shade in Evvie.

Evvie was one of the collector's box nail colors from Peter Som,for NYFW 2012.

                                                                       Outdoors

                                                                          Sunlight

Evvie is described as a smoky, eucalyptus creme.

I have to say,I did have some trouble with the application on Evvie. This is actually my second attempt at swatching her. The first time was disastrous. I had alot of gloopiness, and brush strokes. Then I realized, what with me not being so accustomed to wearing cremes, that I needed to apply very thin coats, and wait for each coat to dry. I know "duh".

Anyway, with this second application I was fairly pleased with the way it turned out. I wound up applying two coats for full coverage and the dry time was a little longer than I wanted. However,I do like the shade. I am not sure if it complements my skin tone at all, though.

Evvie is short for Evelyn.

What Does My Name Mean? Evelyn, The Meaning of Names

What does the name “Evelyn” mean? A name is much more than just a name!
E is for expressive, not one to hold within.
V is for volunteer, your giving side.
E is for endear, all those you touch.
L is for lively, your life is full of energy!
Y is for young, the years never show!
N is for nice, need I say more?
The name “Evelyn” is of English origin and it means “Beautiful Bird”. It’s a name commonly given to both boys and girls. There are 3 other names that are similar to this one.
According to the 1932 U.S. Social Security Administration data, the name “Evelyn” ranks #29 in popularity as a baby girl’s name in Washington. Imagine that, 72 babies in Washington have the same name as you in 1932. Across the entire United States a total of 8,003 babies also bear the same first name during the same year. From 1880 to 2011, the highest recorded use of the name “Evelyn” was in 1921 with a total of 14,280 babies. (That’s a lot of baby Evelyn)
OMG! It's tough being a popular person isn’t it?
Since 1880, your name was recorded 511,143 times in the American baby names history. Do you want to know how popular is the name Evelyn?’

Your name in reverse order is “Nyleve”. A random rearrangement of the letters in your name (anagram) will give ‘Elenyv’. (How do you pronounce that?)

So what do you think of Evvie? Is this a green you would wear?

Zoya Diva Daul swatch & review!

Hello,dear readers!

I'm going to be switching things up a bit today, and show you one of the Diva colors from Zoya!

I couldn't help but be distracted while swatching all those cremes! So I picked up the bottle of Daul, and wow! I fell in love! I actually didn't know I was going to like this one as much as I do!

I started to brush it over my nails, and after two coats,I was amazed!

                                                 Daul sunlit

                                                 Close up!

Sun again! Here you can see a tiny shift in the violet base with the gold metallic sparkle of Daul.

                                                Shade

                                                Shade

Zoya Daul is described as a magic violet foil. And magical is definitely the right word for it! I used two coats for full coverage, however, I believe three coats would probably be better.

As I was outdoors photographing it, I noticed a slight shift in the color of the violet base and the gold metallic sparkle. It seemed my tips were violet, and there was a gradient of gold sparkle from the base and stopping at the nail line. I asked my husband, "Do you see this?" He took my camera, and had me pose my hand in the first photo you see above.

What Does My Name Mean? Daul, The Meaning of Names

What does the name “Daul” mean? A name is much more than just a name!
D is for dandy, a description of you!
A is for abundant, your cheer knows no bounds.
U is for unique, your love of life.

Zoya Designer Natty swatch & review!

Hello,dear readers!

Today's swatch is another gorgeous creme from the Zoya Designer collection for fall. Today I have for you,Zoya Natty.
                                                                      Indoors

Zoya Natty has got to be one of my favorites in this collection! I just love this shade of smoked navy blue!
I applied two coats for full coverage.

                                              Another look:
                                                                     Outside in shade

And now for a whimsical turn on Natty. Ahem!

...please don't go yet...

I have some really cute photos to show you!

Behold, the book "Nattie Witch" by Ruth Rosner. This book was given to me many years ago,by a grown up "Harry Potter" . Actually the guy's name was Eddie, and he was an offshore oil worker, who had a head injury. Eddie carried  a rather flamboyant crystal wand. When I left and moved here,he gave me this book. Now,I know that I am an adult, but I love to read children's books, and watch animated movies. I am sometimes more child-like for my age, than ...well...I dunno.

A brief inside look at the book.

Aside from the little tangent I went off on, how do you like Zoya Natty? Which one if the Zoya Designer cremes do you love most so far?

Thanks for reading!

Zoya Designer Swatch Monica!

Hello again,dear readers!

Today I have a swatch of Zoya Monica for you.

Pic taken in late afternoon light

Zoya Monica is the purple cream in this group of Designer shades. I normally love the color purple. The color purple has been my favorite ever since I was 18. Zoya describes this as a dark mulberry purple creme, which I would say is a very accurate description. It's not dark enough to be vampy, just dark enough to be the perfect purple shade for fall. I only needed two coats for full coverage.

Continuing with the theme of names,Monica is a derivative of Monique. According to my source, Monique is both Greek and Latin in origin, and means " advisor or couselor" .

So,my dear reader, what do you think of Monica? Are you fond of purple?

Zoya Designer Swatch Toni - what's in a name?

Hi! I'm back, with another swatch for ya', from the Zoya Fall Designer collection. Today's polish is named Toni.

(Please excuse my cuticles. They haven't looked this rough in a long time.)
I need to go back to using the T.I.P.S. My cuticles were so smooth then! :-)

Toni is described as a dark maroon red cream. I found it to be another jelly-like polish, although opaque in two coats it seems to retain a certain translucent quality that I love. It is a shiny cream, again shiny like Rehka.

I used two coats for full coverage and it still has a slightly translucent quality to it. I am not sure if it is just me, or my camera,or the light the photo was taken in. It was taken outdoors in the late afternoon shade.

Getting back to the name though, and I have no idea where Zoya gets the names for their polish, although I have heard that some have been named for avid fans of Zoya, others for superstars like Uma Thurman.

I have always had a curiosity about names. My name for instance, after I researched it means "nativity". My mother named me after a nun who taught her in school, long ago.

I did look up the name Toni, in the fabulous Google search engine, and came up with a site or two where you can find info about your name. What I found is that Toni is a short form of Antonia, feminine for Anthony, and it actually means "beyond praise." I am sure there are other sites that would say it means something totally different.

Have you ever wondered what's in a name? How about Albert Einstein or Nikola Tesla? Would they have been the people they turned out to be without those names? Would Albert have been THE Albert Einstein?

Zoya Rehka swatch and review

Today I have a swatch of  Zoya Rehka

This photo was taken with flash in my lightbox.

Zoya Rehka- here is your classic red creme.

I love the story behind this polish. Rehka is the custom shade designed by Bibhu Mohapatra, in memory of his late mother. Bibhu's mother always wore red nail polish on her left hand, because it was the custom in his native country to eat with one's right hand. Therefore she only wore  red nail polish on her left hand.

I am not a creme polish lover by any means. I probably own one other red creme in my polish collection. This is a creme polish that could make me love cremes for the first time ever.

Zoya Rehka ,as you can see from my swatch, is a shiny, classic red creme. To me it has sort of a jelly-like quality to it, in that it has that squishy look that I love from wearing jelly polishes. I did not need  a topcoat to make it  shiny. It was easy to apply,as most Zoya polishes I've tried. I only needed two coats for full coverage, and the dry time was not overly long. I did detect a hint of pink in  Rehka,as I was removing her from my nails.

So,my dear readers, are you a red nail polish lover? Do you like cremes? Are you ready for fall yet?

Polish in this post was kindly provided by the media department for review. Please see my disclosure policy for more information.

datyorkLOVES Glitterland glitter

Hello dear readers! I said I would be back, and here I am,with an incredibly gaudy-looking mani, because I couldn't restrain myself when it comes to glitter.

For the index and middle finger I started out with a base of L'Oreal Water's Edge. I painted my middle and pinky fingers with Essence Hard to Resist, which is navy blue polish with subtle purple shimmer.
Here is a photo again,of the glitters that were sent to me by the lovely Dahlia of datyorkLOVES

As you can see, there is the green glitter on the left. In this bag you will find open heart-shaped glitter, and to my surprise, there are also small whole hearts.I used both types for this manicure.

On the right is some gorgeous purple iridescent glitter that is star-shaped.Two types of glitter, one is open, and the other is a smaller star shape. They look like they fit together, like pieces of a puzzle. When I first saw it,it brought to mind doughnuts and doughnut holes.

The purple glitter you can see on my index and ring finger. The color is a bit hard to capture, but you can definitely tell the stars are purple against the light backgroud of Water's Edge.

I enjoyed doing this mani. As with most glitter,I get the "deer in the headlights" look, when I catch sight of it,and therefore,I am usually a goner, and just start slapping it on there like so much confetti. In this case I wished I had a bit more self-control.

What I really love about this glitter though, is you are getting two types of glitter wether it is hearts or stars. You get the open-shaped larger glitter, and the smaller whole hearts and stars together in one bag. I haven't seen this with other glitters I've purchase like this.

You will be able to purchase this glitter and other colors too, when datyorkLOVES opens her  Glitterland  shop on the August 17th.

Product Information

The glitter has been used as nail art. It has not yet been tried in polish.
What you get: When you receive your glitter(s) you will either receive an 8 gram bag or two 8 gram bags of the glitter you've chosen

Glitter size:  under 1/2 cm or 1/8 in. or 5mm

The glitter will come in 8 gram bags, and there will be free shipping.Handling time is 2-5 days, and the product will be sold INTERNATIONALLY.

For larger quantities, additional colors, comments or questions e-mail Dahlia at datyorkloves@gmail.com

Essence Make It Golden

For a long time I have wanted to do a glitter tip mani.So finally here it is. It was very simple, took very little time to do,and is a nice subdued way to wear glitter, when you don't really want to draw alot of attention to your nails.

This polish was given to me by Shannara of Nails and Stuff . She and I did a swap last year, and omg,has it really taken me this long to swatch it? Yes! I have so many untried polishes!

The next time I do glitter tips,I want to do the one where you drag the glitter part way down the nail,I think it's called a glitter gradient or something like that.Anyway,I wanted to do it with this polish, but I was afraid it would get messy and then I would have to do clean up,and I was in a hurry,so I didn't.

Thanks for reading! :-)

Orange Juice

                                                                Sunlight

                                                                Sunlight

                                                               Sunlight

This is Nicole by OPI Fresh Squeezed., from Spring 2010. This is another color that I would not ordinarily wear. The first coat made me think of fresh-squeezed orange juice, but at the second coat,I was thinking it looks  more like Tang.

It has a sheer formula. It went on with two coats for opacity, and has a gorgeous golden glass fleck shimmer.I am finding the bottle unwieldy,as I  my fingers struggle with each other to get an even grasp on the bottle for posing. I like all my fingers to line up in row,but this bottle shape makes it impossible.

These are live nails this week, folks. I finally broke down and painted them for real.I am still using my cuticle oil twice a day. I am using my right hand for the photos. I still don't get it. My right hand nails grow faster and longer than my left hand. My only thought is that because my left hand is dominant, and gets used alot more, the nails on that hand naturally take a bit more of a beating. So I have two nails on my left hand that are so short you could say they are bald. Definitely not using my left hand for swatches, not right now.

How about your,do you find your nails grow longer on one hand rather than the other?

Play Fair!

Before I forget...I've installed a couple of polls off to the right. The main one,is concerning the changing of my blog name. I would really love your input. Please vote for your favorite "new name" for my blog :-)

Here's another one of the older polishes I pulled out to show you. This one was part of Nicole by OPI's Spring 2009 collection.

Play Fair is a purple lavender with a bit of pink shimmer. I normally wouldn't go for a color as pale as this one,but the shimmer played a big part in luring it into my shopping basket.

this is two coats of Play Fair. The pic is taken outdoors in the shade.

I have maybe 3 more Nicoles to show you.Yeah,I don't have that many. I should really have more of these considering how much I love the formula and the adorable bottle :-)

...her name was Nicole (by OPI that is!)

This is the fourth polish that I "ever" owned. Is this getting corny? I am having fun going through my lacquer collection one by one, from beginning to end, and at this rate,we are only getting started!

My Walgreens was actually closing these out when I found this bottle of Nicole. That's what I thought the brand name was, until later, when I became more "polish-ucated". I learned that Nicole was a brand launched by OPI to meet the needs of the retail market such as Target,WalMart,Meijer, and Ulta. I also didn't know at the time, that the original OPI was considered a salon professional brand.

Nicole by OPI was named after Nicole Schaeffer ,the daughter of George Schaeffer, the founding father of OPI nail lacquer.

Now that we've had our history lesson for today, let's take a gander at this beautifully named polish we have here. It's called Love Your Life. My immediate attraction to this polish was firstly the opalescent pink hearts and secondly the positive message to "love your life".

                                                                   Shade
Love Your Life is a clear base, with subtle holo glitter and opalescent hearts. I had no real issues with the base, however, I did find the hearts were easier to apply with the dabbing method.I managed to dab on three or four of the hearts pictured here.

                                                                   Outdoors

Here you see the polish a little closer. I believe it looks nice as is,I have also used it a few times layered over other more opaque polishes.

And now for an "EXTREME CLOSE-UP"!

I am imagining a different layering combo altogether now, involving a additional glitter and some jelly! Will my love for glitter never end?

Thanks for reading!

After the "Millenium"

I don't want you to become bored with nothing but bottle shots,so I dragged another mani out of the vault. China Glaze In Awe of Amber is the next polish that became a part of my collection, after Millenium (bottle shot pictured here)

Some of my polishes seem to have a story behind them, and I hope you are enjoying my little trip down memory lane.

As I slowly meandered down "polish road", I wandered into Sally's Beauty Supply one day,and found myself staring at their shelf of China Glaze polishes. I was immediately attracted to two polishes in particular,China Glaze Unplugged (which I will cover in a later post) and China Glaze In Awe of Amber. I actually had no idea how pretty this one would be until after I'd worn it a couple of times. And, after I found out what collection the polish was from I was even more intrigued.I have a penchant for sheer polishes,it's true, and the whole collection of China Glaze We Adorn You from Fall/Winter of 2006,were all sheer polishes. At one point I was tempted to hunt down the whole collection.I did find them on a few e-tailer sites, but haven't squashed those lemmings yet.

But let's stick with the polish at hand. And here is a swatch of it.

So this is two coats.I hardly needed that much considering the nubbins. It's a beautiful copper-colored polish with minimal glass fleck shimmer.

Speaking of nubbins,I am slowly nurturing mine back, after those acrylics worn here. After they were removed,I did nothing but baby them for days on end.Still, there was some tearing.Mostly on my left hand. My dominant hand. My right hand nails are still holding on with the growth that happened while the acrylics were over them. There's been chipping, usually when I am typing. But they are actually stronger. It used to be when I had a chip, the whole tip of the nail would tear away. It's different now, maybe due to the oils I've been using to moisturize my cuticles with.

Meanwhile,I am going to continue to keep blogging.I considered showing you a current thumb swatch today, but the lighting hasn't been good. I also have swatch wheels.I don't like to use them, because I feel they don't really portray a color accurately, when there's no skin to swatch them against.

Thank you again for reading, and continuing to follow. I also appreciate every single one of your comments.

the third polish I ever owned...

Continuing our journey down the rabbit hole, here is Zoya Cheri, the third polish I've ever owned.
Zoya describes this polish as a rich rose-mauve with warm red undertones.

I've probably worn it at least three times.

Cheri is part of Zoya's Classics collection.I am not sure when it debuted. I love the way the bottle shot captures it's golden shimmer!
