When Harry met Sally

This is my hair. It was this color when I was four.I dye it now, because as I got older it became much darker. The curls are natural. My hair is coarse and thick. I believed in my teens that I had to have straight hair,so I went to a salon periodically and had it straightened.

I've made my peace with my curly, frizzy, coarse, unmanageable hair.I consider it to be one of the beautiful blessings that I've been given. I believe that genetics has alot to do with what you come out of the womb with. This hair is one of those things. My mother's great, great grandmother was a Lakota Sioux Indian. I am fairly sure that is where the coarseness and thickness comes from. If you had seen my mother when she was alive, you would see the same hair you see here, but it would have been totally gray.

this is a photo of me trying to capture the gray swatch I have at my right temple area. I have had this gray swatch for some years now. I do have my hair colored when I can,and everytime I have someone do it, the gray cannot take the color,or at least that is what I am told. That swatch of hair, never turns the same as the rest of my hair.

Sarah, over at The Giveaway Lifestyle is giving away two sets of polish. One the China Glaze Crackle Glitters, and the other are the Wet n' Wild Bejeweled collection. There will be two winners, and the giveaway is open internationally. Here is a picture of the stuff you can win.

Giveaway ends May 31st,11:59 pm ET. Click here to enter!

Bailamos

I was going to post this yesterday,as it seemed like the perfect polish to feature for Cinco de Mayo, which is a day of celebration for both Mexicans and Americans. It is the holiday which commemorates the Battle of Puebla which took place on May 5th of 1862. A common misconception is that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day. Mexican Independence Day is actually September 16,1810.

I started out with two coats of Bailamos, which looks alot like a creme, but is a turquoise blue with teal shimmer.Orly Bailamos, is one of the polishes I received from Sam at The Polished Medic .It is also one of the polishes from the Orly Viva Collection of Spring 2010.

I would not normally buy a polish like this, because I wouldn't expect it to look good with my skin tone. However,I was happily surprised. I wanted to Konad it,but after several attempts with my Bundle Monster plates,I wasn't getting a good transfer of the images I wanted.

And a bonus, because I like sharing music and other trivia, with you, below is a video of Enrique Iglesias singing his 1999 hit song, "Bailamos" .

The Hungry Asian Swatches and Review!

As requested by a few of my readers I swatched these today for ya'! Oh,I don't like swatching glitters, not so much the swatching,as the removing. Ok,well if I could drink the glitter,I would,I really would, especially when they are this pretty! I actually did have a dream a few months ago where I was drinking a cocktail, there was glitter at the bottom, and in my dream I was disappointed because I couldn't drink the glitter :-( The cocktail was sweet though :-)

Moving on to the swatches.

Oh,a bottle shot! Of Pony. Tried to capture the many colors of glitter in this one. I think you can see it somewhat. Pony is actually packed with royal purple, lilac, and a hint of black and magenta medium hex glitter in a subtle shimmering base.

Now,what I've done here is try to show what this looks like at different levels of coverage. Pinky-1 coat. Ring finger- two coats, middle finger - three coats, and index- four coats for full coverage. Plus I did add Gelous to make it look shiny. The coverage on this is great,no matter what level of coverage you want, because I found that the glitter spread out so easily over the nail. There was no fishing through the bottle or having to dab it where you want it to go. I hate that with some manufacturers of glitter polishes. And this is an Indie polish,so it's excellent, absolutely gorgeous purple with tiny amounts of red glitter dispersed within. Purple glitter or the color purple for that matter just makes me happy! Heck, any color glitter makes me happy!

Here is Vote for Purple, in the shade.Vote for Purple is a pale lavender and small square and medium silver  hex glitter in a subtle shimmering base.   I am not really sure what the inspiration for the name is here. Again I am showing the glitter at one coat on the middle finger, two on the index, and three coats on my ring and pinky. Three coats is all I needed for full coverage on this one.
this picture is taken in sunlight. Again, the purple is very hard to capture, but it is definitely there. This reminds me of the purple in China Glaze Eye Candy Marry a Millionaire. Although that one has all sorts of other busy stuff going on with it. This is just straight light purple glitter in a clear base.

And the star of the show is...u jelly? It is a rasberry/dark pink jelly with sparse fine red and purple glitter.

I loved how this one went on.So smooth. I wound up using three coats for full coverage. Gosh,I love jellies! I do,and this one is like no other jelly I've tried. It is not anything like the OPI Sorbets from the OPI 2011 Texas collection. The formulation is so unique,it cannot even be compared to OPI .

There is all sorts of stuff going on inside this polish. The first coat was a bit sheer, and you could see the glitter showing through, then came the second coat, and after the third coat it just leveled out so well.I was seriously just going oooo and aaahhh as I applied it! u jelly? is my favorite of all three of these. It was also actually very easy to remove.

I am going to leave the link to Kae's Etsy shop for ya' The Hungry Asian Etsy Shop

Okay, well that's it for today dear readers. I hope you enjoyed these swatches.

Kauai-gold-flecked,rich berry pink.

This was two coats.I probably could have applied three, but I didn't notice the VNL until I took the photo. This color brings to mind strawberries, which I love. It's a delicious-looking colour. The application went on very smoothly.I had no issues with the formula at all. I was incredibly surprised by the gold flecks. You can't really see it in the bottle, but wow, when it went onto the nail, it was a burst of strawberry goodness!

Next up is:

St. Tropez - a gorgeous on-trend nude.

Ok,you all know I love nudes.  This is actually a very pretty shade in the bottle, and I love a good nude colour. I believe it is more a sandy nude.It does have some shimmer, and came out a bit brush-strokey. After the second coat it seem to level out. I like the way it looks on my nail IRL,but in this photo is doesn't look good on me at all. Nonetheless,it is a great neutral shade!

Overall, these are great shades for spring and summer. St. Tropez makes a nice work-appropriate nail look, whereas Kauai is definitely a shade you will want to wear, when you want your nails to be noticed.

Oh I couldn't forget about @MsLaynie

Yup. Another giveaway I won. Two packages of glitter, a scrapbooking punch thingy that punches a heart image with an arrow thru it. And a couple of sweet little heart thingies, that have some random goodies inside. I believe that Laynie did a tutorial over on her blog MsLaynie's Custom Scrapbook Nail Decals, that's the name of the tutorial. Her blog is called LaynieFingers and you should really check it out, because Laynie has some wonderful DIY's and how-to tutorials all nail polish related. She is a sweetie, too!

....the one where I caved...

Well,I didn't buy much polish this year, and when these came out,I was half-way through the ASK Cosmetics nail challenge. I couldn't help but want the whole set. I got them for way less than retail from a good e-tailer on Amazon.

a polish named after a movie??? !!!

It was 1992,I was still single and had just moved to the big city of San Antonio,Texas, and look what was playing at the movie theater!

Orly's Spring collection 2012 has a polish named Prelude to a Kiss. I first saw it swatched on one of my favorite blogger's The Polished Medic . She had a contest soon after that, and I was one of the winners.

Note: I was so enamored of that movie,I must have watched it 20 more times since it came out. Ok,yeah,I know,I am a hopeless romantic, lol!

Frankens!

From Kae,the the Hungry Asian

I loved how pretty the package was wrapped, and then when I opened it up,OMG!

what I got from...

Elysee of Make-up,Nail Art,and Beauty

She is a sweetie. When she heard I was going through the naked nail challenge she sent me a bottle of nail strengthener, and some hand cream, all the way from Poland!

this little package warmed my heart, because Elysee sent me these things just out of the kindness of her heart.

the first polish I bought this year was...

                                                                   FingerPaints Twisted!

Even though I knew I wouldn't get to wear it for three months, lol :-) I had to have it, because I love flakies! If you don't believe me take a look at this post from last July!

The next few posts are going to be about some of the polishes I've acquired this year. Later, when I am up to it,I will swatch them for you. For right now, please enjoy some bottle shots! :-)
