Island Girl Insights:250 Follower giveaway!

Rachael at Island Girl Insights will be giving away one NerdLacquer polish each to two winners.
Use this link to enter here ! It ends April 12th at 6pm GMT,and is open internationally!

It's never too late to spoil your nails with T.I.P.S. !

As I was taking photos of my bare naked nails today,my husband was smiling and snickering at me :-) He caught me staring at them!
This led to a discussion of my childhood, and how I viewed my nails then.
I reminded him, that never in my life have I ever had nice nails. I told him about my childhood, how everytime there was a bit of length on my nail,I would tear it off.I was also a scab picker,by the way,and that's another story.

My husband has three sisters.I had no adult role model in my life,as far as taking care of my nails.I mean to say, that I don't ever recall noticing my mother taking care of her nails.I am certain she had them done in a salon. I also recall, that when I returned from Spain,at the age of 9,I went to visit a couple of my  cousins who were two or three years older than me.That was my first introduction to nail polish, and my last. The three of us sat at the kitchen table, one of cousin's painting my nails, and when my father walked into the room, that was all. My father was very strict, and I was ordered to remove the polish immediately.

And so you see, here I sit,I turned 49 in January,my love affair with nail lacquer having blossomeda couple of years ago.

I want to impress upon my readers that it is never too late to take charge, and be good to the nails you have.I have recently realized, since using the Ask Cosmetics T.I.P.S. conditioner for Toes,my nails feel incredibly pampered. I finally have a sense of what it means to take care of my nails, and as I said before, not something that I learned as a young person.

I also can't help staring at my nails, because to me they do look great! They are not short and stubby anymore, although I would like them to be somewhat longer.

If you've been able read thru this lengthy post, you now know much more about me than you did before, and also maybe more than you want to know, teehee! :-)

On to my pics for this week!

I've been wanting to do a shot like this! This is honestly what I see when I look down at my nails.

And this is my left hand.

my nails seem to look longer in this type of shot, and it makes me want to throw glitter all over the tips!

And there you have it! My photos for the 7th week! 2 months are almost over, and I am ready to start painting my nails! I really do want to throw glitter all over them! LOL!

@Influenster @GilletteVenus #GoddessSkin

                                        VENUS AND OLAY RAZOR

Hello dear readers, today I am reviewing the Gillette Venus and Olay razor I received in my Love VoxBox for testing and review from Influenster.

To begin, some product information about the new VENUS AND OLAY RAZOR:
1.Venus and Olay razor has five blades that shave you close and adjust to your curves for a smooth and comfortable shave, even over tricky shaving areas like knees and ankles.
2.The Olay Moisture Bars, attached to the blades, contain skin-enhancing elements found in Olay products, like Petrolatum,to help lock in skin's moisture for less dryness, and Glycerin which helps offer a goddess glow!
3.All you do is wet the razor to release a light lather,no separate shaving cream is required.
Like most Venus razors, the new Venus and Olay razor, has a rounded, pivoting head, designed for women's curves, and a soft-grip ergonomic handle for confident control, even in wet and soapy environments like the bath or shower.

And now for my honest and unbiased opinion:

Firstly,I used the Venus and Olay razor just this morning while showering. I shaved my legs with it. It did do a very good job  of shaving close and removing all unwanted hair from my legs.

Secondly, I didn't notice that my legs were any more moisturized than when I use the Gillette Venus Intuition razor, which is my preferred razor of choice for shaving. In fact,I find my Intuition razor does a much better job for moisturization.

And last of all, I didn't find the ergonomic pivoting head,or the slim handle to have as much ease of use than the Gillette Venus Intuition that I am used to using. The Intuition razor is much sturdier, has a larger handle and is easier to grip than the Venus and Olay razor.

This is my honest and unbiased opinion about the Gillette Venus and Olay razor.

WHERE TO BUY: A refillable Venus and Olay razor with one replacement cartridge sells for approximately $8.99-$10.99. Packages of three replacement cartridges are available for about $14.99-$19.49.
Venus and Olay razors are already available at food, drug, convenience, and mass merchandise stores throughout the United States.

You can see more information about the new Venus and Olay razor at www.gillettevenus.com

Week 6: Ask Cosmetics Nail Challenge @nailcareAskLisa

wow! Who would have thought this would happen? I remember when I wrote my notes from the first week,I recall saying "I hate my nails, and I think they are ugly." Or something like that!

And now here we are it's Week 6,I am still using the T.I.P.S. for Toes, which Lisa told me would be used for the first 8 weeks. I have been applying it liberally to my cuticle areas and all over the nail. I use the Revival Hand Cleanser occasionally, and the Revival Milk on occasion too.

Notice the length! I have been whining a bit about having short nail beds. I still think I have short nail beds, but that is something that is genetic,I am sure.

this is my right hand ...a little wonkiness with the one finger there.I just don't want to cut it down :-(

I have to say I didn't believe it was possible for my nails to grow even this long. If you look at week 1 you can see why I am a bit startled by the success I am having.

Well, that's all for this week. I am pretty happy with the results so far.

Thank you so much for reading! :-)

Test drive: Kiss Nail Dress

Hello ladies! Today I am bringing to you a review of Kiss Products Kiss Nail Dress, that was included in my complimentary INfluenster VoxBox.
Here I am holding the package while wearing the "dressing".

Inside the package you will find the stickers wrapped up neatly in plastic, along with a small nail file.

Kiss Nail Dress: No Dry Time
            Fits  All Ten Nails
Last up to 10 Days

You also find the instructions which are easy enough to follow.Just select the size that fits your nail, apply it,smooth it over your nail and fold over the edge, and file the excess. You're done! These were very easy to apply. You can also see in the upper right panel are a few of the designs of the Kiss Nail Dress,as well as the below panel showing you 12 more designs.

As you can see these come in a wide variety of designs to fit your mood and personality.I especially like the funky french design pictured above.

What I like about these nail dresses is that they are very easy to apply. The strips come in 14 different sizes, and the box includes 28 strips. In the below photo you can see some of the strips, after I used 10 for a full manicure. You can use these strips also for pedicures,on artificial nails as well, and since the polish strips do not dry out, like other brands, you can use the remaining strips for a DIY manicure.

The design I received is very jazzy. It's a varied leopard print,of white, black, silver, pastel pink, hot pink, and purple. All of the designs look different on each nail. I think this is a nice thing to have when you are on the go,don't have time to polish your nails,or just want some really cute design to dress your nails up,without having to do all the work that is required with say Konad stamping,or just free hand nail art. Those of us who are not that savvy with nail art, might find these to be a very nice option, and like all ladies,we love options!

What I didn't like about the nail strips:

1.The odor upon opening the package. When I took the strips out of the wrapper, the odor reminded me of new plastic, vinyl,or rubber, not sure exactly, but it was slightly unpleasant, and I could still smell it after I had applied them to my nail.

2. I was only able to get one manicure from the package. With 28 strips included, you would think you would be able to get at least two manicures, especially at the price these retail for at my Walgreens, which is $7.99. Now if I were able to find a use for the rest of the strips, that would be fantastic!

Other than that,I think the Kiss Nail Dress strips are a wonderful option to have, are easy to apply, and come in a really great variety of designs. They will be wonderful for use on the go or when you just don't want to polish your nails.Removal is also easy, you just peel them off and you're ready to start over!

thank you so much for reading!

Where to buy: Kiss Nail Dress suggested retail price is $6.99 at major drug chains and mass retailers like WalMart,CVS,or Walgreens.

these were sent for review and testing by Influenster in my Love VoxBox.

Truvia Natural Sweetener Product Review

Another item I received from Influenster in my complimentary VoxBox,was Truvia artificial sweetener.

I have tried artificial sweeteners containing the stevia leaf extract, and I like them, however, they were incredibly pricey. This one doesn't taste any different from the other stevia sweeteners, and it is affordable too. Before I received my VoxBox,I was actually eyeing this brand at the grocery store, and noted the price.

Truvia comes in little packets, the same size as any other artificial sweeteners you may find on the market. Pictured above,I also received a coupon for use on my next purchase, which I think was a very nice touch.

Truvia does not have any type of nasty artificial aftertaste, unlike other brands, such as Sugar Twin and Equal, that do have an icky aftertaste. Truvia does not have any aftertaste. It just tastes sweet. I used it to sweeten my regular teas,as well as my herbal teas, and also sprinkled a little on some strawberries.

In conclusion,I will certainly consider purchasing this brand of sweetener the next time I am at my local grocery store. It was truly a pleasure to sample.

@Influenster @stashtea #stashtea

The next review for today is regarding Stash Premium Teas, out of Portland,Oregon. I received a very generous complimentary box of Herbal Teas in my Influenster VoxBox. The box contains 18 herbal teas in 9 various flavours.

I am naturally an herbal tea lover. My love for herbal tea began with a visit to my grandmother's home in Florida. She had a box of Celestial Seasonings Rasberry flavor herbal tea,and that is where my love affair with herbal teas began. Since then,I have had the opportunity to try an amalgamation of many different flavors of herbal teas that are on the market at this time.

Here is a photo of how the teas come packaged inside the box.You have a little envelope that contains the tea bag in it,and all you do is open it,boil some water, and put the tea bag in the water to steep for five minutes.Steeping the tea for five minutes allows the flavors of the herbs contained therein to disperse into the hot water, making for a calming, pleasurable caffeine-free beverage.

What I loved most  about the Stash Teas is that the flavors all have a very full body. I naturally gravitated towards the Chamomile,Cinnamon Apple Chamomile and the fruit-flavored teas like Blueberry Superfruit,Mango Passionfruit, and Wild Rasberry Hibiscus. Acai Berry was also a pleasant mix of herbal flowers, roots, and fruit.

There were only a couple of flavors that were unnappealing to me,and those were the Licorice Spice and Lemon Ginger. These are spices that I  found to be slight nauseating.I am certain this has  to do with my own individual tastes, and not a reflection of the actual teas themselves.

I also love that these teas are made of 100% Natural Ingredients and caffeine-free. One can't ignore also, that the tea comes in eco-friendly recyclable packaging.

I hope you enjoyed this review, and take some time out of your hectic day,to sample some herbal tea.You will find it to be a relaxing and soothing beverage during the cold winter months. I also find that I like to steep my herbal teas in the summer, in a suntea jar,and serve it cold, with artificial sweetener for a refreshing pick-me-up.

@Influenster @LoveGhirardelli #iloveghirardelli

So today I am going to give you all my review regarding the Ghirardelli Chocolate I received in my complimentary VoxBox.

All I can say is that my husband is just as much a chocolate addict as I am,so as soon as the VoxBox was opened, this item was the first thing to be unwrapped. It was also the first thing to be consumed. And it went fast! Although my husband was a bit peeved that I ate most of it,after he only had two squares.

And here is the coupon we received with the chocolate, for future treats!

It comes nicely packaged in foil, and the chocolate is divided into thin squares that you can break off very easily for a quick rush of chocolately heaven. I say heaven because the Creamy Devotion is not just an "epicurian experience" as described on cardboard box it's contained in,but a milky sensation. The only drawback we noticed was that the chocolate did melt in our hands,so I refrigerated it,until I was ready to take another bite.

This is the type of chocolate that will leave you satisfied with just one square, although the recommended serving is three squares. My thoughts aside from that is that I could actually shamefully eat a whole bar in one sitting! Yes indeed, this chocolate definitely gets a thumbs up of approval from me!

I am picky when it comes to my chocolate choices,so compared to some other chocolates I love to eat, this one is right up there with the other brands I love!

A sweet sort of love note from Influenster! Thank you!
And printed on the back,a list of the nice gifts my new "Valentine" sent me!

The first item I received, the Gillette Venus razor with Olay Moisture Bars. I know I will enjoy testing this out, since I am already a user of one of the Gillette Venus products.
One of my favorite brands of nail products,KissProducts, the Kiss Naildress. I have used KissProducts glue-on nails, however,I have yet to try the Naildress! This looks like a spiffy little design, with some of my favorite colors!

Ghirardelli Chocolate Creamy Devotion Bar!

Stash Teas!

Last and not least, Truvia, nature's Calorie-free sweetener!

I've actually already sampled most of the products, and will be featuring reviews of each and every one of them!

You can't stop progress

hello dear readers!

Today I have my weekly update on my progress with the Ask Cosmetics Inc. Bare Naked Nail Challenge.

If I had known a week ago, where I would be today...well,I could not have known.I was dejected.I had torn a nail, and in anger decided to cover my nails in glitter,LOL! That lasted about a day or so.Then once the glitter was removed,I went back to my regular routine of applying the T.I.P.S. nail conditioner.I've found throughout the past four weeks, that applying it up to three times a day,is what works for me. And it is helping to create the good habit of nurturing my nails.

Here are my pics of my nails' progress this week: I did have to cut back my left thumbnail today. While it's growing out,it has had little hiccups, where the growth is uneven,so I keep cutting it back, keeping it even, until hopefully it will grow out normally.

This is what the left thumb looks like today.

This is what the nail looked like a few months ago.

Both of these are photos of my left hand nails today.

Here is my right hand, two photos of them today.

I want to add something that I experienced during the middle of the week. I don't know if there is such a thing called "nail memory". I bumped a couple of nails around, while I was in the kitchen.I have been known to bump them up against cabinets,as I am opening and closing them to remove and put items back.I felt something akin to the feeling I used to get, when I knew a nail was about to break. The reason is that when I wore acrylics two years ago, there was always a couple of nails that would occasionally break between fills. And the nail would always break in the same spot, taking part of my natural nail with it.This never happened with the press/glue on nails, because if I bumped them, the nail would pop right off and I all I had to do was glue it back on.

So basically, there was no breakage, I felt that feeling of the nail about to break,in the same spot it would have broken, had I been wearing acrylic nails.I call that "nail memory."

I wonder if any of you have ever experienced this feeling?
If you have please feel free to share,or any other comments that might come to mind.

Oh and before I go,I want to share some links with you,of some of the other ladies I know are participating in this challenge.
