Zoya Uma

Well, after that last post, I suddenly saw the few polishes sitting here at the computer, and said WTF, I think I will actually polish my nails, lol.

                                                Lightbox photo
I decided to play hooky today! And I am wearing another favorite Zoya polish called Uma! It's a soft, dusty neutral pink kissed with gold shimmer. I actually like it better on my natural nails. This photo doesn't really show it's true beauty, however,it would make a great base for a traditional French mani.

I was going to do a Bundle Monster french, but it was a total fail, and then I had a million things to do around the house,so I just left it the way it is.

I found this video at the Dollar Tree a couple of years ago. It is the very first movie that Uma Thurman had a starring role in,made in 1988.It was called Kiss Daddy Goodnight.  If you like thrillers, and Uma Thurman, it's worth checking out.

Now, I am off to work on my spreadsheet,to get my polishes organized. It's a daunting task.

Happy Hump Day!

Pink Many Wednesday

Hi,gals! This is a mani I did about a  year ago. It's a SpaRitual polish from the Believe Spring collection. This particular polish is called Hope Springs Eternal, which is kind of apropos for the way I have been feeling this week.

This was a very pretty polish when I got it. The photo makes it look a bit frosty, but it's not. It's more of a coral pink shimmer polish. I like it,but not enough to re-apply it for today.

I've been feeling under the weather. I haven't felt like doing my nails, ever since I removed Zoya Tanzy on Monday night. I have to say that the removal of that polish was so easy, for a polish with glitter in it. Amazingly easy, with the stuff I use from Onyx,a lavender scented polish remover that is very gentle and won't dissolve my artificial nails, teehee. * Note to self: Buy more Zoya glitters next time there is a promo running.

So yes, I will be back to polishing my nails once I feel a bit calmer, and a bit more inspired.

There has been some stuff at work that has been somewhat upsetting me. I have been doing some crochet work in the meantime, and trying not to stress about what to wear on my nails.

Thank you for reading today and may hope spring eternal for you as well. :-)

No Sunshine today, but I am wearing Sunshine on my nails!

Good afternoon everyone! I have just been relaxing today with the hubby. We are on our day off together from work, and I decided on a spur of the moment that I want to try out Zoya Tanzy from the Sunshine collection. I received Zoya Tanzy as a gift from a very dear friend.

I first swatched Tanzy in the bedroom on my thumb only, and since the lighting wasn't that great, I was going," hmmm, ain't nuttin' special about this." I was sooo wrong! I came out to the living area, where my hubby was seated on the couch watching a movie, and when I looked up at my manicure, which I had finished by then, I couldn't stop staring. My nails were competing with Kevin Sorbo in "Kull the Conqueror", so I was having alot of trouble deciding which to focus on.

My impression of this polish is outstanding. I had seen swatches of it and the other colors in the Sunshine collection over on Scrangie's blog, and well, her photos are always so gorgeous anyway, but wow! I really like this polish on me!

Tanzy has sunshine written all over it,with a tangerine hue and gold metal sparkle,it's like wearing 14 karat gold on my nails. I did notice that the application was sheer for each coat. I used three coats. I just love the formula of the Zoya polishes. The glitter is not gritty or goopy. It just glides over the nail like all of Zoya's polishes.

I can't say anything about removal yet. This is my first glittery polish from Zoya. I am hoping it will be just as easy to remove,as it was to apply.

I couldn't believe that we didn't have much sunshine today, hence the title of my post. Both of these photos were taken indoors with my lightbox.

Thank you for reading my polish ramble for today.

Happy Friday!

A Crackle Comparison

Hello again! I hope you are enjoying a happy almost end of the week. Today I have a comparison of two crackle polishes, one is Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Antiqued Gold, the other is China Glaze Cracked Metals in Tarnished Gold.

Can you tell which is which?

I applied the Sally Hansen to the pink and middle fingers, and the China Glaze to my index and ring fingers.

First of all,Sally Hansen's Crackle Overcoat, went on so sheer. Although I was pleased with the way it cracked, I think the China Glaze cracked better.

Second the two colors are not at all alike. Antiqued Gold is a much cooler gold, almost silver looking in this photo, and China Glaze Tarnished Gold is a warm more yellow gold. As I said I thought the China Glaze cracked better, and since I wanted you to see how pretty it looks, I did not apply top coat to either crackle. I love the way Tarnished Gold looks even without top coat, the Sally Hansen, not so much. I may be returning it to Walgreens.

That's it for today's post. I hope you enjoyed it,and take care.

Pink Mani Wednesday

Well, hello there beauties! Today's post is going to be my first official pink Wednesday mani.

Revlon's Just Tinted in Victorian. I apologize for the messy mani,I was in a rush to get this done before the sunlight went away.

Revlon's Just Tinted polishes are not so bad. I was dismayed at how sheer each coat was though. It took me three coats to get to the coverage you see in this photo. There were a couple of bald spots on my right hand,so I photographed my left hand instead. I am not sure if the bald spots are due to my rush to get the mani done, due to cuticle drag,or just because of the formulation of the polish. I do like the color. I also like how pretty it turned out after three coats. I don't think you can make these opaque no matter how many coats you apply, because I believe it is meant to look sheer "just tinted" as it is called. The sheerness reminds me of something interesting I saw a few weeks ago while googling about the history of nail polish. Before nail polish even existed,Chinese women used to tint their nails, using a mixture of egg whites, gum arabic(made from tree sap), gelatin, and beeswax. They also added mashed flowers, like impatiens, roses, and orchids, which after a few hours, left their nails hued anywhere from pink to red. What's also interesting about the tinting of their nails,is that they never allowed the moons of their nails to be colored. Those were left au naturale.

The Revlon Just Tinted nail polishes dry to an almost matte finish,I've heard it referred to as satin.Either way,it did need topcoat to make it shiny. This is one of those polishes that would be fun to make a "glitter sandwich" with.

I have a couple of the other Just Tinted polishes to post.

I hope you enjoyed my historic meander into the origins of nail polish.

A Haul Post

Hi ladies. Sorry for the absence recently. I have been working alot, however, I am grateful that I have a job, which allows me to have money to pay for the "hauling." So here is a photo of the China Glaze Cracked Metals I stumbled upon at a local Sally Beauty Supply store yesterday. Enjoy the pic. I hope to be back to doing manis very, very soon.

Cracked Metals found at Sally Beauty Supply yesterday! Woohoo... on Twitpic

China Glaze Laser Lime

Good evening,ladies!

This one of the polishes I purchased from the China Glaze Tronica collection. It's called Laser Lime. I had every other color of holographic polish except green until this one came along. I also picked up Techno Teal and another one,the name escapes me right now.

Aside from nudes and purples being my favorites, green is my next favorite color of nail polish. I would say it has surpassed my love of purples, and I am currently attempting to shore up a reserve of green nail polish,as it is my newfound love, and I don't own a whole lot of greens.

Laser Lime dried very fast! I applied three coats, and inm OutTheDoor topcoat. I was really surprised at how fast the drying time was.

Here is a photo of it in direct sun
Just one photo in direct sunlight. I think it's sufficient to say that this a definite keeper. I wouldn't even attempt to adorn with konad or anything else. It would be foolish,as the holographic effect stands very well on it's own. IMHO.

I hope you enjoyed my trip into "holo" land.

Thanks for looking.

Sinful Let's Talk

Hello dear ladies! Today's nail is called Sinful Let's Talk. I sometimes wonder how the polish companies come up with some of these names.

I have had this in my stash for over a year, and not worn it. Then the other day, when I was feeling slightly down, I said to myself,"It's time to break out a purple!" Purple always seems to lift my spirits and make me feel cheerful once more.It has been my favorite color since I was in college. My brother gave me one of those preppy pin-striped button down shirts, with a matching purple sweater, and I was hooked on purple ever since. This was at the height of Prince's fame. And by now, you can somewhat guess my age. #Iwentthere and I won't go there again, lol!

Moving on to the polish. Let's Talk is so incredibly richly purple indoors. Even in the bottle it is intensely purple, however, my camera did not capture half of it's glory. I took photos in every nook and cranny of my house,I used the lightbox,to no avail. The sunlight photos are the best I could do,and they still don't capture the color at it's truest. It seems to lean towards blue to me,and so we will just have to content ourselves with this for today.

I started out with three coats for opacity, but then in a dumb attempt to KONAD, I made a mess with one of the full images from the new Bundle Monster plates. I am kind of shocked that the full image would not cover my nails. I started with my thumb, then did the middle and ring, but they were all fails, so I used two more coats of Sinful to cover up the mess.

Sunlight
Sunlight: in this one there is more blue showing.

I was once told that color is subjective.Everyone perceives color differently due to the rods and cones inside the eye. So I will ask you,
do these two photos look about the same to you?

KISS All or One Artificial Nail Remover

Hello, ladies! Today I am super-excited to tell you about a product I just recently found out about. It's not new,but it IS new to me.

Last night, while removing my artificial nails, I realized something about this product that is truly different from pure acetone. Up until recently,I had just been soaking little round cotton pads in pure acetone, wrapping my nail with them, and then little squares of foil around the cotton (usually referred to as the "tin foil method" of removal). That method worked fine, except for two things. One,the tin foil method takes 30 minutes to soak off artificial nails, and two, the pure acetone used with this method, leaves your fingers feeling incredibly dried out.

In comparison, KISS Artificial Nail Remover, will remove these babies in 20 minutes or less, and for me it was more like 10 minutes tops. All you do is cut off the majority of the length of your artificial nail, throw that away, and then soak what's left on your nail. First you dip your nail(s) into the well, soak for 2 minutes, and then dip and twist  your nails accross the soft pink bristles inside the well for up to 20 minutes. I have to add that the thing I love most about this product is that it contains emollients, like fruit extract, and orange oil, besides the acetone. So it left my nails and fingers feeling very soft and cared for,as opposed the pure acetone method I was using before. I also love the way it smells. The scent is very light, and faintly fruity.

I also want to add that I first saw this product, while watching a YouTube video done by Dollface22772 So if you would like to see her review of this product, you can check it out. Dolly also does alot of great nail art tutorials that are always entertaining!
KISS All or One Artificial Nail Remover can be found at most major drug chains, and at WalMart. I bought mine at Walgreens, for $6.99.

I am not affiliated with this company, nor am I being compensated for reviewing their products. These products were purchased by me,for my personal use, unless otherwise noted.

Color Club Revealed

hello ladies. Happy Sunday to you all!

Today's nail polish is Color Club Revealed, another polish from the Reveal Your Mystery set.

Revealed is a peach pastel with a slight shimmer that is hardly noticeable,IRL. It took three coats to make it cover the nail, and even IRL,there were a few bald spots and streakiness. I can't tell you how surprised I am to see how well this photo turned out. The sun god was definitely working in my favor,as I photographed this one. You can also see the slight shimmer in the pic.

And a macro shot of the polish on the nail. A bit of tiny glitter shows up.

Well, that's all for today, sorry such short posts for today and yesterday. I am off to work, and will do some posting on the morrow too.

Thanks for looking! :-D

Color Club Secret Rendezvous

Hello dear readers! Today's post is another Color Club polish from the Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery collection.

Secret Rendezvous is a pale lilac creme polish. I used three coats because of the streakiness in application. After three coats I'd had enough,so I added Nicole by OPI drying drops, and that leveled off the streaks. I took photos of this one in shade and in sunlight.

I would probably not wear this again, unless I top it with some crackle or maybe some konad. I personally don't really like pastels, but for being a collector, I probably wouldn't have bought the set. It was only $7.99 at my local Ross store.

I hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

Take care.

Zoya Buffy and Konad plate M71

Hello dear readers and followers!

Today I have another beauty called Zoya Buffy. By now you can tell I love nude polishes! This one can best be described as a pearly warm champagne blonde with subtle pink duochrome and frosty silver shimmer,(description from the Zoya website.) I totally get the blonde reference, since "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was one of my favorite shows while it was running.I will also shamelessly admit, that I did buy this polish for it's name. LOL! Don't you just love Zoya's polishes? I only own a few,but the names are very fitting, and I do also love the formula of their polishes. They go on like a dream! (Please excuse my going off on slight tangent there :D

I don't see a pink duochrome in this pic, however, I did have a pic that showed some greyness (maybe the silver shimmer) in the bottle. I trashed that photo, because it didn't seem right to me. It doesn't even really show up on the nail.To tell you the truth, it shows up more gold on me.  I used three coats for opacity, however, this is also one of those great nudes where you could get away with using one coat for a nice sheer french manicure.

I konaded it with plate M71 and Dark Orange Special Polish, the random pearl is the only one, because my rhinestone glue either dried up or got clogged. I haven't used it in over a year,so that may be why.
Lightbox with flash
The silver shimmer is definitely a little sneaky. I didn't think it was going to show up,but after careful analysis, I finally see it.

thank you for reading.

Embarrassing sidenote: I just realized that my pics are clickable to be larger. I never knew how to do this, and don't know how, however, that is what it is. I also noticed the Konad pic has cotton strands and a smear on one of my fingers. Ick! I will have to be more careful now. I had no idea!

Naked Ambition

Gosh, who knew naked could be so much fun! Here is another nude polish I picked up at least six months ago. It's called Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Naked Ambition. This shade,to me is a bit hard to describe. I would say it appears to have a hint of peach from the look in the bottle, but it goes on very, very sheer, and also has a hint of microglitter that startled me just a bit. I wasn't expecting to see microglitter in a nude polish. It appeared to be red microglitter, and now that I've taken photos of it in the sunlight it does seem to have a flash of red outdoors. So I guess I wasn't imagining the red microglitter after all.  I used four coats, but could have stopped at three. And here is a macro shot of the very sparse glitter found in this polish. It really does not translate well to the nail.

See tht little piece of glitter there?

How do you like this nude compared to Color Club Incognito, from the previous post?

thanks so much for looking!

Naked

naked,naked,naked...don't you just love these three words? Babies love to be naked. So naked, naked, naked! It's one of the trends that I'M really loving right now.

                                           Outdoors in sunlight

For this post I have Color Club Incognito, from this Spring's Alter Ego Reveal Your Mystery collection. It's a somewhat sheer, fleshy, pink  nude that required at least four coats for coverage. I love this shade of nude. It makes me want to top it with Deborah Lippmann Glitter In the Air. I have quite a few nude polishes, but none like this one. For me,it's perfect. Not a mannequin hands shade, which I am still in search of.

Have a great day,and thanks for looking!

KISS Active Square artificial nails

Well! I finally am getting around to posting about  actually something besides contests! I have been a stubborn little burro lately. I was indecisive at first and then while perusing the blogosphere this afternoon, after work, I craved polish on my nails. Who knew? I went over a week with naked nails. No Dermalect, no nothing.

So tonight I have just a quick post about the KISS Active Square nails I am sporting in this photo. I just applied them. I had actually sized them on my nails last week, and when I went to apply the ones that were supposed to fit me, lo and behold, they were too small. So strange. I had to go back to the little plastic box these come in,which by the way is very handy for storing these babies. I had to go back and pick out different sizes for most of my nails. I cannot explain why this happened. Anyway, even if these don't fit you perfectly you can always file them down, to fit you.

Another interesting thing about these, the first time I bought them, I opened them up, grabbed a few and did not realize I was trying to apply them upside down. Incidentally, I later realized that they have a notch on the end.The notch is there so you know which end is up,so to speak. After they're applied you can file this notch down so that your nails look even.

This is the little plastic box, the nails come in,and the box is also great for storing. These nails are the Active Square, and there are 100 of them in the box. These also come in Active Oval, and Long Curve Overlap sizes. I happened to get a great deal a couple weeks ago on KISS nails when Walgreens had a B1G1 half off sale, and I also had coupons from KISS nails. So,not only are they a great bargain, but they also are plenty of nails to last for awhile.
You can find out more about KISS artificial nail products at http://www.kissusa.com/
